Pet-Friendly Hotels and Guest Responsibilities

Being able to bring a pet along with you on vacation will alleviate worries that your furry friend isn't being cared for adequately while you are away. Seek lodging that accommodates pets and abide by all of the rules that the hotel requires guests to follow.
Pet-Friendly Lodging
Pet-friendly lodging may be offered throughout an entire hotel building or may be designated for a specific block of rooms within a hotel. An economy, mid-range, or luxury hotel may feature pet-friendly accommodations. Most establishments will have some type of waiver or list of guidelines that hotel guests must follow. An overview of the pet policies that are imposed may include breed or pet restrictions.
Some hotels may be opposed to accepting large dog breeds that are noted for an aggressive temperament. There may also be restrictions based upon the size of a pet or the number of animals that a hotel guest will be bringing with them. If you are fortunate enough to find a hotel that will allow large breeds or multiple pets, you may be required to pay a fee for each day of your stay. Even with small breeds or single pets, the hotel management will likely charge a pet fee.
Rules
Being allowed to bring a pet along on a trip can be rewarding, but there may be some modifications that will need to be made to a pet's schedule. For instance, a pet-friendly hotel may feature a dog walking park and a scooping rule. This will allow you to walk your dog within a confined area and be responsible for cleaning up after your pet.
A pet carrier and a leash are two important things to bring along with you on your trip. There will likely be many other guests walking around the hotel premises, which could cause your pet to become startled. Keeping your pet inside of a carrier or on a leash will prevent your pet from trying to escape.
During your stay, you will want to create a comfortable bedding area for your pet that is similar to the one that they use at your home. Be mindful of other guests, by attempting to keep your pet quiet at night and by limiting the number of times that you walk your pet outdoors during late-night hours. If you will be opening your hotel room door frequently, place your pet inside of its carrier. This will keep your pet safely contained.
Talk to lodgings near your destination to find out if any of them are pet-friendly hotels.
